On September 19, 2026, our Embassy participated in the "National Costumes Day" cultural event held at the Palace of the Shirvanshahs in Baku's Old City. Visitors could attend exhibitions, academic and practical seminars, fashion shows, masterclasses, and other cultural programs.
Guests had the opportunity to view traditional attires from 14 countries, including an authentic Matyó costume exhibited with the support of the Hungarian Association of Folk Art Associations.
A grand exhibition of national costumes was held in the square in front of the famous Qosa Qala gate, showcasing a collection of national outfits by renowned Azerbaijani fashion designer Gulnara Khalilova, as well as Gulzade Abdulova’s collection titled "From the Past to the Present." The highly successful international fashion show featured costumes and dances from peoples around the world.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Tamás Torma emphasized that both Hungarian and Azerbaijani culture are connected by strong ties, rooted in ancient history; the two nations are united by linguistic ties and a deep mutual respect for cultural heritage. Both Hungarians and Azerbaijanis perceive traditions not just as folklore, but as the basis of their national identity. Baku is an amazing gateway where East meets West, creating a unique blend of tradition and modernity, and the Hungarian Embassy plans to organize further joint cultural programs in the future.
