The 12th Steering Committee Meeting of the Green Energy Corridor between the Governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary was held on 9th July 2026 in Baku, with the participation of Mr. András Tótth, State Secretary for Energy of the Ministry of Economy and Energy of Hungary and MVM Group. During the meeting, the Feasibility Study of the project was approved, thus the project formally entered its next stage of development. The parties signed a Joint Letter of Support addressed to Dan Jørgensen, European Commissioner for Energy, expressing their support for the implementation of the Green Energy Corridor project. The Heads of Delegations came to an agreement to initiate the inclusion of the Green Energy Corridor project in the third list of the European Union's Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs).
State Secretary András Tótth emphasised Hungary’s commitment for energy diversification and decarbonization. Hungary has the largest share of solar energy production in its energy mix in the EU, while Hungary also aims to increase its wind energy capacity and will significantly invest into the development of its national energy grid.
Hungary and Azerbaijan are enhanced strategic partners since 2023. Cooperation in the field of energy has a prominent role in the relations of the two countries.
